Romantic breaks at Garden Cottage
Enchanting self-catering property - 'Just for Two'
Garden Cottage was formerly a workshop for the making of oak swill baskets, a traditional Lake District craft for hundreds of years. The cottage has been fully renovated, creating a delightful holiday home, and is the perfect hideaway for a romantic break. The cottage has a range of attractive features that include oak beams, slate floors and rugs and wood-burning stove. The kitchen has a gorgeous Rayburn cooker, and there is a comfy sitting room, bedroom and shower room, all on one floor.
In 2010, after two years of offering bed and breakfast, we decided to extend Garden Cottage - to include a kitchen - and concentrate solely on self-catering. The attractive kitchen is very much the hub of the cottage, with lots of character in the beams, a curved wall and an oil fired Rayburn that's constantly on, and at cooking temperature. It keeps the whole cottage lovely and toasty, and there is a back up of central heating for chilly days!
The dining table 'Just for Two' is in the kitchen which on one side overlooks the fields, stretching up the valley, and on the other side, the garden. There's a washing machine, fridge, CD radio (all tucked away out of sight) and everything else you need for your self-catering holiday.
The sitting room houses a comfy sofa which can also be used as a bed settee, and there is a fabulous wood-burning stove for those chilly nights when you just want to tuck yourself up and relax after a busy day out and about. There are plenty of books, magazines and maps to plan your days out, and a few select DVDs if all you want to do is sit and relax with a glass of wine.
The cosy bedroom has a king-sized bed while next to the bedroom is a compact but beautifully formed shower room, with Victorian style shower, basin and toilet.
Every window in the cottage has a different view and each room has an abundance of features: window seats, interesting nooks and crannies and those lovely traditional beams.
