Our Beautiful Lake District ~ World Heritage Status
Just a few weeks ago, our beautiful Lake District was at last awarded the so deserved Unesco World Heritage status, putting it amongst the likes of the Grand Canyon, the Taj Mahal and Machu Picchu. It was one of 33 sites around the world to be discussed for this status by the Unesco committee in Poland, being praised for the area's beauty, farming and the inspiration it had provided to artists and writers. This is the 31st place in the UK and overseas territories to be put on the Unesco World Heritage list and the committee has suggested the impact of tourism be monitored and has requested improvements in conservation efforts. The Lake District has been trying to obtain the Unesco status since 1986, so this title is long overdue!
Lord Clark of Windermere, chairman of the Lake District National Park Partnership which put together the bid, described the decision as "momentous".
I am so very proud to have been born and raised in this beautiful place and to be able to share just a tiny little postage stamp of the Lake District with lovely appreciative visitors makes me feel fantastic! I look forward to welcoming guests to Howe Foot for many years to come.
The stunning view over Coniston above is just 5 minutes walk from Howe Foot.
